Introduction of TVS Scooty Pep Plus

TVS Scooty Pep Plus, introduced by TVS Motor Company in 2005 as a lightweight, entry-level scooter, came with a host of new features compared to TVS Scooty Pep. It was one of the first few gearless scooters in the Indian market.

Though launched as a unisex scooter, it aimed specifically at women buyers post-2009, after registering monthly sales figures of nearly 25,000 units.

The sales figures of the initial two years signified that more women customers were buying the model than their male counterparts. From then on, the company marketed the scooter primarily to women by launching several campaigns, which included:

  • Providing riding training to women
  • Product placement in successful movies
  • Sponsorship of the ‘MTV Scooty Teen Diva’ reality television contest

The company launched three Pep Plus BS6 in April 2020, with an updated fuel-injected and more fuel-efficient engine that gets compliant with the BS-VI emission norms.

The scooter model is now available in two variants and eight colours. TVS Scooty Pep Plus gets at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 55,712 and Rs. 58,562 (ex-Mumbai).

What’s new in TVS Scooty Pep Plus ?

The TVS Scooty Pep Plus comes with the following new things.

BS6 fuel-injected engine: The TVS Scooty Pep Plus comes fitted with a new BS-VI compliant fuel-injected engine that is optimised to give more fuel efficiency and power.

Mudhal Kadal Edition: The Mudhal Kaadhal (which means ‘First Love’ in Tamil) edition was launched exclusively in Tamil Nadu in January 2021. It sports a fresh new colour and graphics, and the TVS logo gets written in Tamil.

Front mobile charging socket: The BS6 model comes with a new front mobile charging socket that helps riders to recharge their cellular devices on the go.

Specifications of TVS Scooty Pep Plus

The TVS Scooty Pep+ receives a BS6 87.8 cc fuel-injected engine mated to a CVT gearbox.

It can churn out a max power of 5.43PS at 6500rpm and peak torque of 6.5Nm at 3500rpm. It is 0.43PS more powerful and 0.7Nm torquier compared to the BS4 version.

It can sprint from 0-60 Kmph in 11.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 70-74 Kmph.

The BS6 fuel-efficient engine gives it a mileage of 60-68 Kmpl, depending on the road it is travelling. The lightweight scooter weighs just 93 kgs and gets a 4.2-litre fuel tank.

TVS Pep Scooty gets built on a steel underbone frame linked to telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear.

Running the scooter is a pair of 10-inch alloy wheels equipped with 110mm drum brakes with synchronised braking technology. The two-wheeler has a ground clearance of 135mm and a seat height of 760mm.

Design of TVS Scooty Pep Plus

Primarily marketed as a scooter for female riders, the Scooty Pep Plus has a lightweight and sleek design. The kerb weight of 93 kgs makes it one of the lightest scooters in the Indian market.

The halogen headlamp is the same as the previous model. A pair of black-coloured rearview mirrors get fitted between the handles.

A pair of LED daytime running lights and side indicator lights come fitted on the apron, eliminating the need for a mudguard and covering the front wheel.

The spacious floorboard gives the rider sufficient room to keep their feet on it comfortably. A front storage compartment allows them to keep their small and personal belongings in it.

The vehicle comes with a flat single-piece seat that provides greater comfort to the rider and pillion passengers.

The seat height of 768 mm makes it easier for female and young riders to ride the vehicle. Under the seat, bag hooks get fitted to carry all types of bags.

Pep Plus also has sufficient boot space to store miniature or passenger helmets as well as other things.

A pair of footpegs fitted at both sides and a flappable side footrest is to the left for pillion riders. It also comes with a rear grab rail cum carrier. It rides on a pair of alloy wheels, and a chrome-cover exhaust gives it an appealing look.
