The faux rigid Fat Boy, a Softail model since its inception, hits all the right high points with its thick, chrome-skirted front forks, low 25.9-inch seat height, and solid-disc wheels both upfront and in the back.

The windsock position, an upright stance typically comfortable for most body types, is achieved by the set of short-rise/slight-pullback handlebars, front foot controls, and full footboards.

The fenders at both ends provide the impression of a classic layout. Although the factory made efforts to maintain the old chrome-nacelle look up front despite the modern lighting, the switch to LED lighting resulted in a modification in the actual headlight housing.

A pair of bullet-shaped turn signal housings mounted on the struts, a slender LED lightbar tail light, and a side-mounted licence plate holder make up the rear equipment. The Fat Boy carries a lot of physical weight – as well as its apparent weight – down low to create this a strong-feeling and solid-looking vehicle thanks to the muscular front end and trademark sturdy rims.

The Fat Boy’s air-cooled 1745cc Milwaukee-Eight 107 V-twin engine produces 144 Nm at under 3000rpm. It comes with a 6-speed transmission with large gear ratios included. Although refinement levels are much higher than those of its predecessor, the 6-speed gearbox has a clumsy feel. The Heritage Classic’s 19.1-litre fuel tank and 322kg operating weight are the same for this motorcycle. The chassis is lighter and more rigid and comes from the brand-new Softail lineup. The seat height is 670mm, and the vehicle’s a modest 115mm ground clearance.

Therefore, expect to scrape the bottom of the majority of the speed limit signs in town, especially if there is a passenger. The front forks in the suspension system use Showa twin bending valves for quick responses, and the rear mono-shock has remote manual preload adjustment. The Harley-Davidson Fat Boy has 18-inch chrome spoke wheels with a spoke count of 160/60 and 240/40, staying true to the vintage motif. A single disc is used for both the front and rear brakes.

The Fat Boy 114 comes with all LED lighting and a semi-digital roundel on the tank. A 5-inch analogue speedometer with digital gear, odometer, fuel level, clock, trip, range, and tachometer indication and the rear look cleaner than before because turn indicators are now integrated into the brake lights.

The pillion has no backrest, and the rear seat is best reserved for shorter rides. Fortunately, the stretched-out handlebar and forward-set footboards make for a comfortable riding position. The rider’s seat is plush and a little soft. The 2019 Fat Boy’s electronics package consists of ABS and nothing else. There is no traction control or cruise control on this powerful cruiser.

The suspension setup includes front forks with Showa dual bending valves for faster responses and a rear mono-shock with remote manual adjustment for preload.
